Being locked out of your home can be stressful. The steps below explain what you can do if this happens.
Please read all options carefully and choose the one that works best for your situation.
Option 1: Collect a spare key from Apex (office hours only)
If the Apex office is open, you may be able to borrow a spare key.
Call our office first to check availability
You may need to visit the office in person
Spare keys are available during office hours only
You must return the key within 24 hours
This option depends on staff availability and is not always guaranteed.
Option 2: Wait for Apex to attend
Apex will try to help where possible, but please understand:
This option is not always immediate
Our team supports many properties across London
Other urgent commitments may take priority
If you choose this option, there may be a delay.
Option 3: Arrange a locksmith at your own cost
You can arrange a locksmith yourself if needed.
The cost of a locksmith is usually your responsibility
This applies when there is no fault with the lock
This is standard practice across most rented homes
If you do use a locksmith:
Inform Apex as soon as possible
Provide a new set of keys within 24 hours
Option 4: Arrange temporary accommodation
If you are locked out outside office hours and cannot access your home:
You may consider staying with friends or family
A low-cost hotel may be an option
This may be cheaper than calling an emergency locksmith late at night.
Important reminders if you are locked out
Locking yourself out is not considered an emergency repair
Emergency locksmith costs are usually high
Always keep keys safe and consider giving a spare key to someone you trust
