Water leaks can cause damage if they are not dealt with quickly. This guide explains what to do if you notice a leak in your home.
Please follow the steps below.
Step 1: Identify the leak
First, try to find where the water is coming from.

Is it dripping, running, or flooding?
Is it coming from a pipe, tap, radiator, ceiling, or appliance?
Is the leak small or severe?
Do not touch any electrical items if water is nearby.
Step 2: Contain the leak
Try to stop water spreading and causing damage.

Place a bucket or bowl under the leak
Use towels to soak up water
Move personal items away from the water
If safe, place plastic sheets to protect floors
This helps reduce damage while waiting for help.
Step 3: Turn off the water (if the leak is severe)
If water is flowing heavily or flooding:

Turn off the water at the main stop tap
The stop tap is usually under the sink or near the front door
Only do this if you feel safe and know where it is.
